Thanks for the mention. I've been busy lately but I've been able to work on the Vincent project the last few days and just put out an update video. I don't remember these but I like the simplified design. There are some on Ebay right now but I already have too much stuff.
I know what you mean. I way too much stuff. Will check out the new video.
Hey John I just wanted to let you know. That you inspire me. There a group of people on facebook that I follow and I have been posting some of your content on there. People on this group cannot get enough of your content. It's called lots of bots. I know the group's creator personally and we would love to have you as a part of our group. You're truly an inspiration to us all. I believe God has put me on this Earth to do something with robotics. I know that sounds crazy. But I truly do believe it as my calling and to see what you have accomplished in life. Really inspires me. Every time I click on one of your videos it just fills my heart with warmth.
So glad you enjoy the videos and have shared them with your Facebook friends. I am not on Facebook, I signed up years ago and face book said that I would have to provide more personal information as they found me suspect. So, I have never gone back. Don't really need them and there games. Wish they had treated me better as your robot group sounds great.
@@Robothut I don't blame you, sir. Nothing but a lot of drama on there. I really don't use facebook for anything else other than posting content about robotics.
Where's ROBOT MONSTER?
So many robots yet to build and so little time.
@@Robothut im buying my first robot since i was a kid..think its the smoking robot its called
@@ronkrill2038 The first robot will lead to a second and so on. Have fun with the hobby, only buy what you like, never buy with reselling in mind as it then becomes a job and not just a fun thing to do.
Wow incredible .any for sale?
Thank you. No, nothing for sale.
I think I used to have this one but it was kinda called “Robo Adventure”? Idk. But it was white and blue. And when I was little, I had the SpiderMan themed version of that. I couldn’t find the remote of the SpiderMan one. But the white and blue one kinda did have the remote, so… And why does that robot sound like a cheaper quality version of Robosapien or Roboactor while making “International Caveman Speech” noises? And why does the robot have a disconnected wire? And the robot kinda somehow looks like a mix between Robosapien Jr. and Robosapien V2, almost.
Cool story , thank you for sharing with us.
@@Robothut Ok…?
@@Robothut Like, I was little when I had the blue and white… uh… version… As a little kid, I think I had the SpiderMan themed one. I think I somehow nicknamed it “SpiderSapien V2 Junior” because that one had SpiderMan colors, Robosapien V2 features and was short like Robosapien Jr… or something… Idk.
So cool to know that there was a toy based on V.I.N.C.E.N.T. I remember the first time I saw the movie on the theater. I was just a kid and I wondered if there was a toy... A few months after, due to the success of the film, a large publisher produced a magazine from its series "Destaque e Brinque" (something like "Detach & Play") that allowed you to create a paper version of the VINCENT robot. I still have it today!
This is weird, I was only thinking of this toy the other day and today, this video pops up in my feed. I have the grey release, it's in my parents' loft and I haven't seen it for decades - but as soon as I saw you show this off, I hoped that you'd demonstrate it working - you didn't disappoint. The memories flooded back immediately. The low pitched burbling this does has been forever engrained into my memory. I always thought that this was just using the same technology as Big Track, just in another form. Thanks for the kick of nostalgia!
Great story. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Dang.i wish I was handy w a solder gun...etc.
Practice makes perfect, or at least makes you better. Try a project and just redo it until you can live with it. Might be fun.
Well done John, there's precision in your painting as in everything you do!
I try. but in the end its a very old barn, so anything goes.
Cool but difficult to play with . Thank John the robot 🤖 man
Oh man! I totally forgot about these little guys! I remember seeing them at Radio Shack or Sears or something. I love the sounds they make when you are programming them. Kind of an early version of the block coding they use today. Thank you for the shout out! 😁
Collecting Robots could be a real Black Hole!
I never realized that there were Black Hole toys on the market.
I always like finding out vintage toys i never knew existed with ur videos, i like the aesthetic of these toys, i feel like they could inspire indie video game designers making futuristic shooter or rpg type games they could take design aspects from lesser known toys and implement them into enemies and robots in the game
$490!!! What makes this toy worth that price?
The robots actually sold for less since two company's made reproes at the same time. But to answer your question. Any time a tin toy with all the hard tooling required, color lithography and small limited run is done the price has to be high to even break even. Both company's lost money on Mr. Atomic.
That’s a really nice looking robot, even the pre-production one. It reminds me of that tiny wind-up robot you featured a while back where the light-up “eyes” are replaced by machine guns.
Back in the day, Mr. Atomic had a 1 of a kind shape / design.
Where can i buy this
You might find one on Ebay, the reproduction toy was produced back in the 1990's, the original toy is from the 1960's.
One of my early pickups during my toy robot collecting phase 20 years ago. Also have the MTH Robby Space Patrol. 👍
MTH did a fantastic job on both the Mr. Atomic and the Space Patrol. Glad that I have them as well.
How is it reverse engineered to closely match the original?
The old now dead master crafts men that worked at OTT worked from an original Mr. Atomic. A art that is all but lost these days. It was interesting to see how the Mikes Train House "MTH" reproduction Mr. Atomics that came out the same year were so close to being perfect as well. Different craftsmen but in Korea instead of Japan.
@@Robothut Thank you!
Just curious: these sixteen 'lamps' are really (incandescent) vintage bulbs or they were replaced by LEDs? Would be cool to see the inside guts of the prototype...
No there is just one incandescent lamp placed inside a spinning color wheel. Very basic mechanical designs from the 1960's to keep battery drain at a minimum and still give a very cool lighting effect.
@@Robothut Yes... I should have thought of that. Even more so at that time when batteries were so inefficient. Thanks John!

My soul horn is the worst.
Yes, even when they work it is like a moped horn. So now you can update to any sound you like.
Now that is a masterful job - and thank you for the video. Did I read correctly on the original website where you have the 3D images, etc, that you found the actual prop parts in a storage bin in Pittsburg, California? Your work-arounds were spot on. Is the Robot museum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where one is on display? I first saw Tobor the Great as well as the TV pilot way back in 1958 - I was three. Anyway, great stuff!!!
The robot was found in Pittsburgh. It is a city in and the county seat of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. My Robothut museum is in the Washington state.
I had a King Ding when i was about 4 or 5 yrs old when these came out... It seemed so big to me at the time, lol. And...I just found the 'Brain' robot in a box in the garage after all this time. Its a lot easier that I thought. Saves a lot of time.
I remember being at someone's house at the age of 4 and seeing they had one of these. For the longest time I've misremembered it as a Power Rangers pinball game.
Thank you for sharing the story, and commenting.
I have a similar one, do you take these in for repair.
In many cases the costs for shipping both ways and the repair work are more than the value of the toy. Sometimes it is the fact that I do not take any form of online payment, only cash, check or money order is a problem for some.
i WONDER IF THAT CONTROLER INSPIERED THE CLASIC STAR TREK PHASER
I was thinking the same exact thing.
this is fantastic.
Tobor was one of the key influences in my childhood that led to me becoming an electrical engineer in R&D. (Speed Racer, Star Trek, and The Prisoner being some others.) Your work is truly amazing! The movie always left me wanting to see more, and your video gave me so much more insight into the structure of Tobor than even the original film. So satisfying and nostalgic! Thanks so much for sharing your wonderfully detailed and accurate creation! 🙏🏻☺️🌿
